Fibre's arrived in Guernsey
Guernsey Fibre is a five-year project by Sure. Having started in 2021, we are making good progress connecting every home in Guernsey directly to our fibre broadband network, with the target for completion by the end of 2026.
Our team of specialist engineers are working their way around the island connecting homes to the network and have made more than 25% of the 30,000 individual households fibre-ready (as at May 2023).
To ensure people have access to broadband and landlines while we work, we’re overlaying the infrastructure that’s already in place. This plus, the density of the households in an area, the ease of access to infrastructure above or under ground and minimising any disruption are all factors for planning every property's connection.
We’re very excited to be delivering fibre connections island-wide.
The Guernsey Fibre project is providing fast, stable, reliable connections into every property and facilitate working from home, high-end gaming, top-quality streaming and multi-device households.
Fibre rollout
We are now fitting 700 new homes with Fibre Broadband every month and customer feedback for installations has been fantastic with our engineers getting a 90% customer satisfaction rating for how clean and tidy their work is from the thousands of homes connected so far.
The rollout is targeted for completion by the end of 2026 when all 30,000 properties in Guernsey will have access to unmatched broadband speeds.
Switching to fibre
If your property has been made fibre-ready, you will be contacted by the island’s three broadband providers.
If your telecoms provider encourages you to upgrade to fibre, you are under no obligation to do so.
But if you do want to have a landline or broadband connection you will need to move from copper to fibre – not immediately, but after a 12-month window from the time we let you know that your home has been made ‘fibre-ready’.
